Azzedine Alaïa Palladium Show

Updated: Sep 2

Azzedine Alaïa, who was a cult hero in Europe, was introduced to the US market in the mid 80s.

One of his retailers, Bergdorf Goodman, wanted to introduce Alaïa to the US by financially supporting a fashion show in New York City.

Alaïa and artist friend Jean-Paul Goude had a vision for the show, Bergdorf Goodman wasn't into it so they cancelled financial backup.

With the support of Barney’s New York, and the owners of nightclub Studio54, Alaïa was able to present his collection at the infamous nightclub Palladium.

The show’s production cost was about $300,000

It hosted over 1000 guests, including Andy Warhol and Keith Haring.

The show made headlines, even though WWD reported “it wasnt that successful”
